As part of its continued commitment to environmental protection and community education, LARDIN carried out a waste management awareness outreach in the oceanfront community of Idenau, Limbe. The initiative focused on educating children and community members about proper waste disposal practices and the serious consequences of indiscriminate waste dumping into the ocean.

This impactful activity was implemented in collaboration with our partners, Techshare, whose support strengthened the educational component of the outreach.
Idenau, being a coastal community, relies heavily on the ocean for fishing, livelihood, tourism, and daily life. However, increasing waste dumping along the shoreline poses a significant threat to marine ecosystems, public health, and the local economy.

The children were encouraged to become “Ocean Protection Ambassadors”, taking responsibility for educating their peers and families about environmental stewardship.
Community Awareness on Environmental Consequences
Community members were sensitized on the broader environmental and economic consequences of poor waste management, including:
• Destruction of marine biodiversity
• Reduced fish populations and loss of income for fishermen
• Flooding caused by blocked drainage systems
• Increased disease outbreaks linked to polluted environments
• Negative impact on tourism and Limbe’s coastal image
LARDIN emphasized that protecting the ocean is not only an environmental responsibility but also an economic and public health priority.
A Call to Action
The outreach concluded with a collective call for:
• Responsible waste disposal
• Reduction of single-use plastics
• Community-led clean-up initiatives
• Collaboration with local authorities for improved waste systems
LARDIN, in partnership with Techshare, reaffirms its commitment to promoting sustainable environmental practices in Limbe and across Cameroon. By empowering children and communities with knowledge and practical tools, we continue to build a culture of environmental responsibility and climate action at the grassroots level.
Together, we can protect the Limbe coastline and preserve our ocean for future generations.
If you’d like, I can also add a short “Impact Snapshot” box (number of children reached, materials distributed, partners involved) to make it stronger for donors and website visibility.
