LARDIN and TechShare Empower Newtown Residents on Household Waste Segregation
Driving Sustainable Change: Alignment with the Clean Limbe Project
This sensitization activity is in direct alignment with LARDIN's core goals under the Clean Limbe Project, which include to:
- 1.Promote environmental sustainability and public hygiene
- Foster community-led action towards proper waste management.
- Promote the principles of Circular Economy through waste segregation at source and recycling.
- And drive long-term behavioral change in waste handling practices at the household level.
Partnering with TechShare shifts the focus beyond routine cleanup, empowering residents to actively prevent plastic and waste pollution at the source.
Field Activities & Community Outreach
A dedicated outreach team covered Manaman Street to conduct hands-on environmental education:
- Door-to-Door & Street Engagement: Direct conversations with households, business owners, and passersby on the benefits of separating organic waste, plastics, and general refuse.
- Distribution of Educational Flyers: Handed out over 60 illustrated guides detailing simple methods for sorting waste using distinct bins and bags.
- Strategic Poster Installation: Placed educational posters donated by TechShare at high-traffic junctions and local shops as long-term visual reminders.
- Interactive Demonstrations: Showcased how to isolate plastic bottles from general waste and explained how recovered plastics gain new life through recycling.
Community Impact & Resident Feedback
The initiative generated strong community engagement, with many residents noting it was their first exposure to the economic and environmental value of waste segregation. The outreach successfully linked improper disposal to drainage blockages, local flooding, and health hazards, while highlighting how waste separation fosters a cleaner, safer, and economically resilient neighborhood.
This joint effort by LARDIN and TechShare is building a foundation for a cleaner Limbe where communities do not just clean their streets, but sustainably manage their waste.
